I will present a new construction of the p-adic de Rham comparison isomorphism for 1-motives. As an application, I will show how this approach leads to explicit computations of the periods of elliptic and hyperelliptic curves. In particular, this provides concrete, non-trivial examples of so-called motivic periods.
